Building Your Gearloc

TMB Gearloc Mat

The first step of your Too Many Bones adventure is choosing a Gearloc. There are four Gearlocs in the Too Many Bones base game, two each in the Undertow and Unbreakable standalone expansions, and 10 add-on Gearlocs, each with their own unique skill lines and play styles. As you gain training points over the course of your adventure, you will spend them on your Gearloc Mat, increasing your skills an unlocking powerful new skill dice to roll in combat.

Gameplay

TMB Gameplay

Each day, you will draw a new encounter card and follow its instructions. Most encounter cards play out on the Battle Mat, a 4x4 grid where every movement counts. Each turn, you can move and roll skill, attack, and defense dice up to your dexterity stat. Hits deal damage, inflict unfortunate effects on your enemies, and parcel out powerful buffs to you. Misses, called bones, are stored in your backup plan, where they can be unleashed later in the form of powerful, character-specific abilities. Each time you successfully complete an encounter, you gain progress points that take you closer to the unique tyrant you chose to face off against at the start of your adventure. If you earn enough progress points before time runs out, you can attempt to defeat the tyrant and win the game!

Game Story

The once-peaceful land of Daelore has become a dangerous place in recent years, as a series of menacing tyrants establish their dominion from Ebonheart in the north to Totemcall in the south. To restore order to the countryside, the Gearloc Council has deployed a group of adventurers to take on these malevolent orcs, goblins, kobolds and assorted other creatures. Along the way, this ragged band will hunt for treasure, get into trouble – and discover secrets darker than they could ever imagine.

The Berzerker

He's diminuitive in stature, but his presence is anything but. Tantrum builds rage as he takes damage on the battlefield, allowing him to wreak devastating consequences on anyone who gets in his way.

This erudite Gearloc is an apothecary ace, a skill that's always valuable in combat. Whether brewing up a healing poultice or laying down a defibrillating zap on an enemy, Patches is one medical professional you don't want to trifle with.

The Demolitionist

Those headphones aren't just for street cred. After she's finished gathering all of the necessary components, Boomer needs something to drown out the noise of her customized, home-made bombs.

Picket

The Tank

Picket is a clear-hearted warrior whose love of adventure is only exceeded by his commitment to justice. His enemies are painfully aware of his commitment when he blocks their attacks and brings his mighty shield down on their heads.

Stanza

The Song Smith

One of Daelore's preeminent bards, Stanza wields the power of music to entrance and defeat her foes. Through careful manipulation of her learned songs, she can control the entire flow of battle, or simply use her luitar as a blunt "instrument."

Duster

The Revolutionary

Raised outside of Gearloc society, Duster knows the hidden secrets of the established order. She aims to overthrow it all, with the help of her roguelike grace and her trusty wolf companion, Nightshade.

Figment

The Time Lord

Launched forward in time by a mysterious device, Figment uses his chronological uncertainty to his advantage. Through timeline manipulation and short durational jumps, he can move through the battlefield and outwit his foes in four dimensions.

After a terrible injury brought her close to death, Gale was revived with state-of-the-art biomedical technology, leaving her lethal and wind-powered! Her power is unmatched when she upgrades her skills through her Backup Plan.
